Of course, redesigning the Chenonceau to better fit her passions wasn’t the only way Medici made waves for women during her era. Building galleries angled to receive natural light from the riverbanks, expanding the estate’s gardens, and nurturing its vineyard were just a few of the monarch’s touches. Catherine de Medici, the widow of France’s King Henry II and queen of France, found her life’s true calling for architecture at Chenonceau. ![]() The estate spans the River Cher, which reflects the chateau’s arches across the water on clear, sunny days. Tomorrow, the French house will unveil its Métiers d’Art collection to the world from a castle, the Château de Chenonceau located in France’s Loire Valley. In a year dedicated to staying home, Chanel followed suit. ![]() Over the year, the maisons from Lemarié to Lesage have been working on Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection, a tradition the house started back in 2002 and has shown annually in December at locations like t he Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Temple of Dendur and Austria’s Château de Leopoldskron. The pandemic has forced many fashion brands to reconsider their production and move things closer to home, but luckily for Chanel, the many métiers its owns and operates are already located around France. ![]()
